Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Ziggo line

The FRITZ!Box Cable is optimally prepared for use with a Ziggo cable connection. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the multimedia outlet, have Ziggo activate the FRITZ!Box, and set up telephony. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • It must be possible to use your own cable modem on the cable connection. You can check under Een eigen modem whether the FRITZ!Box can be used with your cable connection.

1 Activating the FRITZ!Box

  1. Contact Ziggo's customer service at 0900 1884 or use the chat function after entering your zip code and house number so that you can have them activate the FRITZ!Box for .your cable connection. Have the MAC addresses of your FRITZ!Box's cable modem (CM MAC and MTA MAC) ready. You can find this information on the bottom of the device:

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box

  1. Connect the FRITZ!Box to the cable connection and a computer. For detailed information, refer to the quick guide included with the FRITZ!Box and the manual.

3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password on the bottom of the device and click "Log In".
  3. If the menu "Set up Internet Connection" is not displayed automatically:
    1. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
    2. Enable the option "Internet connection via cable".
  4. Wait until the "Power / Cable" LED remains lit. Depending on the signal strength and the way your connection is configured, this can take up to 10 minutes.

    Important:If the Power / Cable LED flashes continuously, the cable connection has not been activated yet or the service is disrupted. In this case, contact Ziggo.

  5. Click "Apply" or "Next" to save the settings. Restart the FRITZ!Box to complete the configuration of your internet connection.

4 Enabling IPv6 in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" or "Type of Connection" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "IPv6" tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  4. Enable the option "IPv6 support enabled".
  5. Click on "Apply" to save the settings.

5 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your login information ready

  1. Have the login information for telephony that are displayed in the Mijn Ziggo app or that you received from Ziggo's customer service ready (for example the username and password).

Setting up the telephony connection

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Line Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Changing the Settings" in the "Telephony connection" section.
  5. Enable the option "Use additional connection for internet telephony via cable connection".
  6. Click on "Apply" to save the settings.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Other cable provider" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your area code and telephone number by "Area Code" and "Telephone Number".
  6. Enter the login information you received from Ziggo by "Username" and "Password".

    Important:Leave the field "Authentication name" blank since otherwise login problems may occur.

  7. Enter vmk.voice.ziggo.nl in the field "Registrar".
  8. Click "Additional Settings" to display all of the settings.
  9. Select the setting "IPv4 and IPv6, IPv6 preferred" by "Contact Internet telephony provider via".
  10. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Adjusting the account Information for the telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective internet telephone number.
  4. Click "Additional Settings" to display all of the settings.
  5. Enable the option "Use telephone number for registration".
  6. Click on "OK" to save the settings.

Adjusting the number format

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective internet telephone number.
  4. Click "Telephone Number Format".
  5. Select the option "None" for the country code and area code in the "Telephone Number Format" section.
  6. Click on "OK" to save the settings.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making outgoing calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click on "OK" to save the settings.
