Blocking YouTube in the FRITZ!Box parental controls

The filter for websites in the FRITZ!Box parental controls also allows you to block access to YouTube. To also block smartphones and tablets from accessing YouTube, you must block all addresses used by YouTube or the YouTube app. Proceed as described in this guide.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Entering YouTube in the list of blocked websites

To block access to YouTube, you must block all addresses used by YouTube:

Note:The addresses given below are valid as of March 2024 and may change. If you are a Google Workspace administrator, you can find information on the current status under Control YouTube content available to users.

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filter" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Lists" tab.
  4. Click the "Edit" link next to the entry "Blocked websites".
  5. Enter the following web addresses (as of March 2024) in the field and press Enter or the space bar after entering each address:
    • youtube.com
    • youtube-nocookie.com
    • youtu.be
    • ytimg.com
    • googleapis.com
  6. Click "Apply" to save the list.

2 Enabling filters for websites

Enable the filter "Block websites" for the access profile you assigned to devices that are not allowed to access YouTube:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filter" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Access Profiles" tab.
  4. Click the (Edit) button for the access profile you want to configure.
  5. Enable the option "Use of guest access blocked".
  6. Enable the option "Filter websites".
  7. Enable the option "Block websites".
  8. Click "Apply" to save the access profile.

Now YouTube is blocked in the parental controls. Restart the FRITZ!Box or briefly switch Wi-Fi off and then on again so that the restriction also applies to devices that accessed YouTube while you were configuring it.
