Blue screen when using FRITZ!VPN

When FRITZ!VPN is installed on your computer, you often get a blue screen when the computer wakes up from hibernation ("Suspend-To-Disk", "Hibernate").

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

1 Installing the latest Windows updates

  1. Install the Windows updates available for your Windows version. You can find information on downloading and installing them on the internet at www.microsoft.com.

2 Installing the latest software for the device

  1. Install the latest driver for all LAN and Wi-Fi network adapters installed on the computer.

    Note:Since Windows Update often does not offer the latest drivers, install the drivers from the manufacturer's website, for example from the Intel Download Center. You can find the latest drivers for the FRITZ!WLAN Sticks in our update area.

3 Uninstalling FRITZ!VPN

Windows 10

  1. Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
  2. Click "Apps" in the "Settings" menu.
  3. Click the entry "FRITZ!VPN" and then "Uninstall" in the section "Apps & features".
  4. Confirm your choice and click "Yes" in the window "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?".
  5. Restart your computer.

Windows 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + X and select "Control Panel" from the context menu.
  2. Click "Programs" and then "Programs and Features".
  3. Double-click the entry "FRITZ!VPN".
    • The "Programs and Features" window opens.
  4. Click "Yes" when you are asked "Are you sure you want to uninstall FRITZ!VPN?" in the "Programs and Features" window.
  5. Restart your computer.

Windows 7

  1. In Windows, click "Start" and then "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" on the top right ().
  3. Click "Uninstall a program".
  4. Double-click the entry "FRITZ!VPN".
    • The "Programs and Features" window opens.
  5. Click "Yes" when you are asked "Are you sure you want to uninstall FRITZ!VPN?" in the "Programs and Features" window.
  6. Restart your computer.

4 Installing the latest version of the FRITZ!VPN software

  1. Open our VPN service page in a web browser.
  2. Download the FRITZ!VPN software.

    Important:Separate versions of FRITZ!VPN are available for Windows 10 (64-bit) and Windows 8.1 / 8 / 7 (64-bit and 32-bit). The version of FRITZ!VPN for Windows 10 (64-bit) is currently only available in German and can be downloaded from avm.de/vpn.

  3. Install FRITZ!VPN on the computer that is to establish a VPN connection to the FRITZ!Box.

5 Restarting the computer

  1. Restart your computer.
