Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a 1&1 line

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with 1&1 and gives you unlimited access to all features, including internet, telephony, and television (1&1 HD TV).

Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line. The FRITZ!Box is then automatically configured by 1&1. You only have to enter your personal account information in the FRITZ!Box user interface if automatic configuration is not possible.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Having your account information ready

  1. Have your personal account information that you received from 1&1 ready.

    Note:You will find the account information in the security letter that 1&1 sent you before activating your connection. If you did not receive your account information, contact 1&1.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box with your DSL line

The cables and adapters included with the FRITZ!Box differ depending on the product version you have. Therefore, connect the FRITZ!Box as described in one of the two following sections depending on which cables were included with delivery:

Using a DSL cable (TAE/RJ45) to connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

  1. Insert the DSL cable into the "DSL/TEL" socket on the FRITZ!Box and into the socket labeled "F" on the telephone jack.

Using a DSL adapter to connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line

  1. Insert the DSL/telephone cable into the "DSL/TEL" socket on the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Insert the short, gray end of the DSL/telephone cable into the gray DSL adapter.
  3. Insert the DSL adapter into the socket labeled "F" on the telephone jack. Leave the black end of the cable hanging.

3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. If the FRITZ!Box is set to factory settings, set a password for accessing the user interface and click "OK" and then "Next".

  3. If you have already changed settings in the user interface:
    1. Click "System" and then "Backup" or "Reset".
    2. Click on the "Factory Settings" tab.
    3. Click the "Load Factory Settings" button.
      • Now the FRITZ!Box's factory settings are loaded and then the FRITZ!Box restarts. The connection to FRITZ!Box will be terminated for about 1 minute.
    4. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface, set a FRITZ!Box password, click "OK" and then "Next".
  4. Select "1&1 Internet" from the drop-down list and click "Next".
  5. Enter the 12-digit "Start code" from the security letter from 1&1 and click "Next".
  6. Now the FRITZ!Box establishes a connection to 1&1 and automatically configures the internet connection and your internet telephone numbers. Configuration is complete as soon as an overview with your 1&1 telephone numbers is displayed.

    Important:If configuration fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact 1&1.

4 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Define which telephone number your telephony devices should use for making outgoing calls and to which telephone numbers the telephony devices should react to when you receive calls:

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
