Loud background noise when using a FRITZ!DECT Repeater

You hear loud background noise when conducting calls with a cordless telephone as soon as a FRITZ!DECT Repeater is registered with the FRITZ!Box.

Cause

  • The repeater is not correctly connected with the FRITZ!Box or it was not positioned correctly.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Preparations

DECT technology is constantly evolving. To ensure that the FRITZ!Box is up-to-date, install the latest FRITZ!OS:

  1. Install the latest FRITZ!OS on the FRITZ!Box.

2 Configuring the FRITZ!Box

Enabling encryption

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "DECT" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the section "Security".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup > Restart").

Setting a PIN

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "DECT" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Enter "0000" as the PIN in the section "Registration".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

3 Re-registering a repeater

Deregistering a repeater

  1. Push and hold down the DECT button on the repeater twice in a row for at least 6 seconds each time.

The DECT LED flashes as soon as the repeater is deregistered.

Restart FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Backup" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Restart" tab.
  4. Click the "Restart" button.

Establishing a DECT connection

  1. Plug the repeater into a power outlet near the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Push the DECT button on the repeater. Hold down the button for at least 6 seconds until the DECT LED starts to flash quickly. The repeater is in registration mode as long as the LED flashes quickly.
  3. Within 2 minutes: Push the Connect button on the FRITZ!Box. Hold down the button for about 1 second until the Connect LED starts to flash. The FRITZ!Box is in registration mode as long as the LED flashes. Other LEDs may also flash.
    • If your FRITZ!Box does not have a Connect button, push the DECT button on the FRITZ!Box. Hold down the button for at least 6 seconds until the DECT or Info LED on the FRITZ!Box starts to flash. The FRITZ!Box is in registration mode as long as the LED flashes.
  4. The DECT LED on the repeater remains lit as soon as the DECT connection has been established.

4 Finding the ideal location for the repeater

  1. Select a location for the repeater where a telephone that is registered directly with the FRITZ!Box still has perfect reception. The DECT LED on the repeater must remain lit. If the LED flashes, the repeater has no connection to the FRITZ!Box. In addition, at the location you select for the repeater, voice transmission with every telephone must be absolutely interference-free in both directions when the repeater is switched off. Otherwise, the location is not a suitable place to position the repeater.
