Using FRITZ!Powerline in a home network without a DHCP server

By default, the FRITZ!Powerline device obtains its IP settings from the router (for example FRITZ!Box) via DHCP. If you are using the FRITZ!Powerline device in a home network without a DHCP server, you must manually configure the IP settings.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Powerline device.

1 Preparing the device

For the duration of the setup, assign the following IP settings to the network device you want to use to configure the FRITZ!Powerline device:

Configuring the device to automatically obtain IP settings

The following step is only necessary if you want to assign static IP settings to a FRITZ!Powerline device in powerline bridge or LAN bridge mode:

The following step is only necessary if you want to assign static IP settings to a FRITZ!Powerline device in wireless bridge mode:

  1. Enter 192.168.178.200 as the IP address in the device.
  2. Enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask in the device.
  3. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the standard gateway in the device.
  4. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the DNS server in the device.

2 Assigning static IP settings to the FRITZ!Powerline device

  1. Connect the FRITZ!Powerline device to the FRITZ!Box or the router via powerline and select "Configure the IP address manually" in the configuration wizard.

  1. Connect the FRITZ!Powerline device to the FRITZ!Box or the router via LAN and select "Configure the IP address manually" in the configuration wizard.

Setting up the FRITZ!Powerline device as a wireless bridge

  1. Connect the FRITZ!Powerline device to the FRITZ!Box or the router via Wi-Fi and leave the network cable between the FRITZ!Powerline device and the FRITZ!Box or router plugged in after setup.
  2. Click "Network" in the user interface of FRITZ!Powerline.
  3. Click "Network Settings" in the "Network" menu.
  4. Enable the option "Configure the IP address manually".
  5. Enter the IP settings in the corresponding fields.
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the FRITZ!Powerline device uses static IP settings. Return the network device you used to configure the FRITZ!Powerline device to its original IP settings. If you change the FRITZ!Powerline device's operating mode again, you must reconfigure the settings given here.
