Connecting FRITZ!Repeater with a wireless router via the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network

The FRITZ!Repeater can extend the Wi-Fi network of the wireless router (for example a FRITZ!Box) in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz frequency band.

If both Wi-Fi networks are enabled in the wireless router at the same time, by default the FRITZ!Repeater uses the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to establish the Wi-Fi connection when setting it up via WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup). To establish a connection over the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network, you must disable the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in the wireless router when setting up the FRITZ!Repeater.

1 Disabling the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in the wireless router

Note:For the following instructions, we used a FRITZ!Box as an example. Refer to the manufacturer of the wireless router for information on setting it up; for example, consult the manual.

  1. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi Network" ("Radio Network") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
  3. Disable the option "2.4-GHz frequency band active" in the section "Active Frequency Bands", or disable the option "Wireless radio network enabled" in the "2.4-GHz Frequency Band" section. If the FRITZ!Box supports more than one frequency band but only one is displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Connecting FRITZ!Repeater with the wireless router

Note:For the following instructions, we used a FRITZ!Box as an example. Refer to the manufacturer of the wireless router for information on setting it up; for example, consult the manual.

  1. For setup, plug the FRITZ!Repeater into a power outlet near the FRITZ!Box.
  2. Wait about 1 minute until the FRITZ!Repeater has started and the Power and WLAN LEDs remain lit.
  3. Push and hold down the WPS button on the FRITZ!Repeater (for about 6 seconds) until its WLAN LED flashes.
  4. Within 2 minutes: Push and hold down the Connect button on the FRITZ!Box until the Connect LED lights up. Other LEDs may also light up:

  5. One or more signal strength LEDs on the FRITZ!Repeater remain lit as soon as setup is completed.

Now the FRITZ!Repeater establishes the connection to the wireless router using the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. You can re-enable the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network in the wireless router.
