No network access to services and shared resources over VPN connection

Although a VPN connection is established, you cannot access shared resources or services in the remote FRITZ!Box network.

1 Preparations

First, check whether IP communication with devices in the network of the remote FRITZ!Box over the VPN connection is possible:

Windows

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut "Windows key" + "R".
  2. Enter cmd in the "Open" field and click "OK".
  3. Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network] in the command prompt window and press Enter.

    Example:
    A computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network can be reached at the IP address 192.168.10.20. In order to ping this computer, enter ping 192.168.10.20 in the command prompt window.

    Important:The computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network must be running. If a firewall is active on the computer, it must be configured to allow ICMP echo requests. Should you have questions, consult the manufacturer of the firewall.

  4. Check which messages are displayed in the command prompt window.
    • If the message "Answer from [IP address]: Bytes..." is displayed, IP communication with the remote FRITZ!Box network is possible.
    • If only the message "Request Timed Out" is displayed, IP communication with the remote FRITZ!Box network is not possible.

macOS

  1. Open the Finder.
  2. Click "Applications" and then "Utilities".
  3. Start the Network Utility.
  4. Click on the "Ping" tab.
  5. Enter ping [IP address of a computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network] in the field and click the "Ping" button.

    Example:
    A computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network can be reached at the IP address 192.168.10.20. In order to ping this computer, enter ping 192.168.10.20 in the field.

    Important:The computer in the remote FRITZ!Box network must be running. If a firewall is active on the computer, it must be configured to allow ICMP echo requests. Should you have questions, consult the manufacturer of the firewall.

  6. Check which messages are displayed by the network utility.
    • If the message "64 bytes from..." is displayed, IP communication with the remote FRITZ!Box network is possible.
    • If only the messages "ping: sendto: No route to host", "ping: sendto: Host is down" or "Request timeout..." are displayed, IP communication with the remote FRITZ!Box network is not possible.
