How much data is transmitted when making Internet calls?
The amount of data transmitted when making Internet calls depends on the audio codec being used. The FRITZ!Box uses the codecs G.711 and G.722 whenever possible. When these codecs are used, 100 to 110 kbit/s are transmitted in each direction every time you make a call (which means a total of up to 220 kbit/s). If other codecs are used, either the same amount or a smaller amount data is transmitted.
If you spend an hour making telephone calls over the Internet every day, in 30 days the volume of data transmitted amounts to around 3 GB (around 1.5 GB in each direction).
