Message "security certificate is not trusted"

When you attempt to access the FRITZ!Box, your web browser displays one of the following messages:

  • "There is a problem with this website's security certificate"
  • "Your connection is not private"
  • "This Connection is Untrusted"
  • "Cannot verify server identity"

Cause

  • The web browser describes the connection to the FRITZ!Box as not private or untrusted because your FRITZ!Box's individual security certificate is not known to third party organizations that validate certificates.

1 Confirming the security warning

You must confirm the web browser's security warning in order to access the FRITZ!Box. This does not pose a security risk!

  • Google Chrome

    1. Click on "Advanced".
    2. Click "Proceed to [...].myfritz.net (unsafe)" or "Proceed to fritz.box (usafe)"
  • Mozilla Firefox

    1. Click "Advanced" and then "Add Exception...".
      • The window "Add Security Exception" opens.
    2. Click "Confirm Security Exception" in the "Add Security Exception" window.
  • Microsoft Edge

    • Click "Continue to this webpage (not recommended)".
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer

    • Click "Continue to this website (not recommended)."
  • Apple Safari

    • Click "Continue".
      • or, if you do not want the message to be displayed when you access the FRITZ!Box in the future:
        1. Click "Show Certificate".
        2. Enable the option "Always trust [...] when connecting to [...]" and click "Continue".
        3. Enter the password of your macOS user account and click "Update settings".

Now you can access the FRITZ!Box user interface over the Internet.

Note:If you download the FRITZ!Box certificate and import it to your computer or, if you have a certificate for an Internet domain, you can import your own certificate to the FRITZ!Box if you do not want for the message to be displayed when accessing the FRITZ!Box in the future.
