Using several wireless repeaters in a wireless network
If you would like to increase the wireless range (WiFi) of your FRITZ!Box in different directions, you can use several repeaters (for example FRITZ!WLAN Repeater) in your home network. For example, you can use a repeater near your garden and another one near your attic. The number of repeaters you can use is unlimited. However, it does not make sense to use more than 20-30 repeaters due to the overlapping of wireless networks.
Note:For this description of the procedure, we used the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater as an example. You can find information on the procedure for other wireless repeaters in the corresponding manual, or consult the manufacturer directly.
Requirements / Restrictions
- All of the repeaters are directly connected to the FRITZ!Box ("star topology").
Important:If you cascade repeaters (wireless connection from repeater to repeater), the bandwidth of the wireless connection is halved again with each repeater and we cannot guarantee trouble-free operation. We recommend using FRITZ!Powerline 540E, 546E or 1240E in environments where the wireless range of a repeater is not sufficient.
1 Assigning different names to the repeaters
Give each repeater a unique name (for example "attic") so that you can tell them apart. You can then use the name of the repeater to open the user interface of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater in a web browser.
- Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!WLAN Repeater.
- Click "Repeater Name" in the "System" menu.
- Enter a unique name for the repeater in the field.
- Click "Apply" to save the setting.
Important:The repeater's name may only contain standard Latin letters, numbers, and hyphens. The name may not start with a hyphen.
