FRITZ!Fon reports "Non-encrypted connection cleared"

A FRITZ!Fon cannot be used to conduct calls. You cannot make outgoing calls, and incoming calls drop after a few seconds. One of the following messages is shown on the display of the telephone:

  • "Non-encrypted connection cleared"
  • "Repeater connection cleared!"
  • "Reject repeater connection? Yes/No"

Cause

  • DECT encryption is not enabled in the FRITZ!Box user interface and the FRITZ!Fon is configured so that it does not allow non-encrypted DECT connections.

Whether you can enable DECT encryption in the FRITZ!Box and in FRITZ!Fon depends on whether you are using a DECT repeater from another manufacturer. DECT repeaters from other manufacturers never encrypt the data they transmit; you must therefore disable encryption in order to conduct telephone calls. If you are not using a DECT repeater or only are only using FRITZ!DECT Repeaters from AVM, enable encryption in the FRITZ!Box and in FRITZ!Fon. FRITZ!DECT Repeaters support encrypted connections.

1 Enabling encryption in FRITZ!Box and FRITZ!Fon

If you did not register any DECT repeaters or only registered FRITZ!DECT Repeaters with the FRITZ!Box, enable encryption in the FRITZ!Box and in FRITZ!Fon:

Enabling encryption in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the "Security" section.
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup or Reset > Restart").

Enabling encryption in FRITZ!Fon

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
  3. "Telephony" > "OK"
  4. Enable the "Secure" setting.

2 Only with DECT repeaters from another manufacturer: Deactivating encryption

If you registered a DECT repeater from another manufacturer with the FRITZ!Box, you must disable encryption in FRITZ!Fon:

Deleting telephones

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Cordless Telephones" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Click the corresponding button (Delete) to delete all of the cordless telephones that are registered.

Disabling encryption in FRITZ!Fon

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
  3. "Telephony" > "OK"
  4. Deactivate the "Secure" setting.
