Adding background images and contact pictures

The FRITZ!Box allows you to add your own images to telephone book entries that you use often. When that person calls, the corresponding picture is then displayed on the display of your telephone. In addition, you can configure your own background image for each telephone that is displayed whenever they are on standby. You simply use the FRITZ!Box user interface to upload the images and transmit them to your telephone.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • FRITZ!Fon must be registered with a FRITZ!Box.
  • The FRITZ!Box must be equipped with a USB port.
  • You can only add contact pictures to telephone books saved directly in the FRITZ!Box. In the case of Google contacts, the pictures displayed are the ones you assigned to your Google contacts. This function cannot be used with other online telephone books.
  • No DECT repeaters from other manufacturers are registered with the FRITZ!Box.
  • A USB storage device is connected to the FRITZ!Box.
  • The USB Remote Connection is not enabled for USB storage media in the FRITZ!Box user interface (under "Home Network > USB Devices > USB Remote Connection").
  • The images you would like to use are in JPEG format.

Note:We suggest using images with a resolution of at least 240x320 pixels. An aspect ratio of 1:1 is ideal. When saving an image as a JPEG file in image editing software, we recommend selecting "baseline" encoding (usually preselected).

  • You can add up to 150 contact pictures.

Note:The configuration procedure and notes on functions given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for your FRITZ!Box.

DECT encryption must be enabled in order to use the convenience functions offered by your FRITZ!Fon:

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the "Security" section.
  4. Click "Apply" to save your settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup or Reset > Restart").

2 Adding contact pictures

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Book" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. If you saved more than one telephone book in the FRITZ!Box, switch to the one you use with the telephone.
  4. Click the button (Edit) for the relevant telephone book entry.
  5. Click on the "Add Photo" tab and then click the "Add Photo" button.
  6. Click the "Choose File" button and select the desired image.
  7. Click "Apply" and "OK" to save the settings.

3 Adding a background image

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the button (Edit) for the relevant telephone.
  4. Click on the "Telephony Device Features" tab.
  5. Click the "Assign background image" button.
  6. Click the "Choose File" button and select the desired image.
  7. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  8. Press the "Menu" button on the telephone.
  9. Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
  10. "Menu" > "Start Screens" > "Classical"
  11. Enable the option "Background image" and press "OK".

Now the images are displayed on the display of your telephone. However, the lower part of the images appears lighter than the upper part. This way you can always read the text display regardless of the image you selected.
