Using FRITZ!Powerline in a home network without a DHCP server

By default, the FRITZ!Powerline adapter obtains its IP settings from the router (for example FRITZ!Box) via DHCP. If you want to use the FRITZ!Powerline adapter in a home network without a DHCP server, you must manually configure the IP settings.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Powerline adapter.

1 Preparing the device

For the duration of setup, assign the following IP settings to the device you want to configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter with:

Configuring the device to automatically obtain IP settings

The following step is only necessary if you want to configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter as a LAN bridge or powerline bridge with static IP settings:

The following step is only necessary if you want to configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter as a wireless bridge with static IP settings:

  1. Enter 192.168.178.200 as the IP address in the device.
  2. Enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask in the device.
  3. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the standard gateway in the device.
  4. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the DNS server in the device.

  1. Configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter as a powerline bridge and select the option "Configure the IP address manually" in the wizard.

  1. Configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter as a LAN bridge and select the option "Configure the IP address manually" in the wizard.

  1. Configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter as a wireless bridge and keep the network cable connecting the FRITZ!Powerline adapter and the FRITZ!Box plugged in. after setup.
  2. Click "Network" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Powerline adapter.
  3. Click "Network Settings" in the "Network" menu.
  4. Enable the option "Configure the IP address manually".
  5. Enter the IP settings in the corresponding fields.
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the FRITZ!Powerline adapter uses static IP settings. Return the device you used to configure the FRITZ!Powerline adapter to its original IP settings.
