Using the WPS method to configure a wireless connection to FRITZ!Powerline

Wireless devices (for example computers, network printers, wireless music systems) that support the WPS method (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) can be connected with FRITZ!Powerline's wireless network quickly and easily at the touch of a button. During this procedure, the encryption settings are securely transmitted from FRITZ!Powerline to the wireless device, which then stores them permanently.

FRITZ!Powerline supports WPS according to the PBC method (Push Button Configuration).

1 Preparing FRITZ!Powerline for WPS

The FRITZ!Powerline is already prepared for WPS in the factory settings. If you changed FRITZ!Powerline's wireless settings, configure the following settings:

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Powerline user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "WPS Quick Connection" tab.
  4. Enable the option "WPS enabled".
  5. Select "Push-Button method (WPS-PBC, Push Button Configuration)" and click "Start WPS".

2 Establishing a wireless connection to FRITZ!Powerline

Windows 10

  1. Click "Settings" in the Windows start menu.
  2. Click "Network and Internet" and then "Wi-Fi" in the "Settings" menu.
  3. In the list of available connections, click the one that displays the name of FRITZ!Powerline's wireless network (SSID) and then "Connect".
    • The field "Enter the network security key" is displayed:

    Important:If the message "You can also connect by pushing..." is not displayed, then the computer does not support WPS. In this case, enter the network key.

  4. Push the "WLAN/WPS" button on the front of FRITZ!Powerline for about 1 second until the "WLAN/WPS" button starts to flash:

  5. Click "Yes" when you are asked "Do you want to allow your PC to be discoverable by other PCs and devices on this network?".

Now the wireless connection is established.

Windows 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut "Windows key" + "C".
    • The Windows sidebar now opens.
  2. Click "Settings" and then the wireless icon in the Windows sidebar.
  3. In the list of available connections, click the one that displays the name of FRITZ!Powerline's wireless network (SSID) and then "Connect".
    • The field "Enter the network security key" is displayed:

    Important:If the message "You can also connect by pushing..." is not displayed, then the computer does not support WPS. In this case, enter the network key.

  4. Push the "WLAN/WPS" button on the front of FRITZ!Powerline for about 1 second until the "WLAN/WPS" button starts to flash:

  5. Select the answer "Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices".

Now the wireless connection is established and the field strength is displayed by the wireless icon .

Windows 7

  1. Click the wireless icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar (Systray).
  2. In the list of available connections, click the one that displays the name of FRITZ!Powerline's wireless network (SSID) and then "Connect".
    • The "Connect to a network" window now appears:

    • Important:If the message "You can also connect by pushing..." is not displayed, then the computer does not support WPS. In this case, enter the network key.

  3. Push the "WLAN/WPS" button on the front of FRITZ!Powerline for about 1 second until the "WLAN/WPS" button starts to flash:

    • Important:Sometimes the message "Windows was unable to connect to this network" is incorrectly displayed, although the wireless connection was established. Click "Cancel" to close the message window.

Now the wireless connection is established and the field strength is displayed by the wireless icon .

Other wireless devices (such as network printers, wireless music systems)

  1. Push the "WLAN/WPS" button on the front of FRITZ!Powerline for about 1 second until the "WLAN/WPS" button starts to flash:

  2. Use your wireless device to search for wireless networks in the vicinity.

    Note:You can find instructions on establishing wireless connections in the manual, or consult the manufacturer of the wireless device directly.

  3. Select the name of your FRITZ!Powerline's wireless network (SSID) and start WPS according to the PBC (Push Button Configuration) method.

Now the configuration of the wireless connection is complete and the connection is established.
