Attempt to set up a wireless connection to a wireless router (e.g. FRITZ!Box) fails

Although you followed our guide to set up the FRITZ!Repeater in the FRITZ!Box home network or set up the FRITZ!Repeater in the home network of another router, the FRITZ!Repeater does not establish the wireless connection. The signal strength LEDs on the FRITZ!Repeater flash for a while and then they turn off.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem persists.

1 Disabling the keylock

Note:For the following instructions, we used a FRITZ!Box as an example. If you are using a different wireless router, refer to the router's manufacturer for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Buttons and LEDs" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Keylock" tab.
  4. Disable the keylock.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Enabling the WPS function

To connect the FRITZ!Repeater with the wireless router at the touch of a button (WPS - Wi-Fi Protected Setup), you must enable the wireless router's WPS function and use the correct WPS method:

Note:For the following instructions, we used a FRITZ!Box as an example. If you are using a different wireless router, refer to the router's manufacturer for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "WPS Quick Connection" tab.
  4. Enable WPS.
  5. Select "Push-Button method (WPS-PBC, Push Button Configuration)" and click "Start WPS".

3 Briefly disabling the MAC address filter

If you want to manually connect the FRITZ!Repeater with the wireless router, the wireless router's MAC address filter must be disabled while registering the repeater:

Note:For the following instructions, we used a FRITZ!Box as an example. If you are using a different wireless router, refer to the router's manufacturer for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" or "Radio Network" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
