Configuring a computer to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP)

The computer with the FRITZ!WLAN Stick needs special IP settings automatically assigned by the FRITZ!Box's DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server in order to communicate with the FRITZ!Box. For this, you must first configure the computer to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP client).

1 Configuring the computer as a DHCP client

Windows 10 / 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut "Windows key" + "X" and select "Control Panel" from the context menu.
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" (top right) in the "Control Panel" menu.
  3. Click "Network and Internet" and then "Network and Sharing Center".
  4. Click "Change adapter settings".
  5. Click on the arrow next to the "More options" icon in the menu bar and select "Details".
  6. Right-click the connection that lists the FRITZ!WLAN Stick under "Device Name".
  7. Click "Properties".
  8. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)".
  9. Click "Properties".
  10. Enable the options "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
  11. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Windows 7

  1. In Windows, click "Start" and then "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" (top right) in the "Control Panel" menu.
  3. Click "Network and Internet" and then "Network and Sharing Center".
  4. Click "Change adapter settings".
  5. Click on the arrow next to the "Change view" icon in the menu bar and select "Details".
  6. Right-click the connection that lists the FRITZ!WLAN Stick under "Device Name".
  7. Click "Properties".
  8. Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)".
  9. Click "Properties".
  10. Enable the options "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
  11. Click "OK" to save the settings.
