FRITZ!App Fon does not ring when you receive a call

FRITZ!App Fon sometimes does not ring or never rings when you receive calls, although FRITZ!App Fon is correctly registered with the FRITZ!Box and you can make telephone calls with this number.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

1 Signaling in iOS via VPN not possible

Due to Apple's technical specifications, the signaling of incoming calls via a VPN connection is not possible in iOS.

2 Disabling "Do Not Disturb" mode for FRITZ!App Fon

The following steps are only necessary if the problem occurs with FRITZ!App Fon on an Android device:

  1. Disable the "Do Not Disturb" mode in FRITZ!App Fon in the Android settings. The procedure depends on the telephone you are using. Refer to the manufacturer of the telephone for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

Note:In many telephones, you can find this option under "Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications > Advanced > Do not disturb".

The signaling of incoming calls is not possible in iOS if FRITZ!App Fon is connected to a Wi-Fi network whose network name (SSID) does not correspond to the name of FRITZ!Box:

  1. Start FRITZ!App Fon.
  2. Tap "More" and then "Settings".
  3. Tap on "Wi-Fi Networks".

  2. Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Call Blocks" tab and delete all call blocks.
  4. Click on the "Call Through" tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  5. Disable call through and click "Apply".

6 Defining telephone numbers for FRITZ!App Fon

Do not configure the telephone numbers for FRITZ!App Fon in the FRITZ!Box user interface, configure them in the app itself:

  1. Start FRITZ!App Fon.
  2. Tap the the three-dot menu on the top right (Android) or "More" (iOS) and then tap "Settings".
  3. If you are using FRITZ!App Fon in iOS, tap "Telephone Numbers".
  4. If you are using FRITZ!App Fon in Android and use the app with several FRITZ!Boxes, first tap on the desired FRITZ!Box.
  5. Under "Outgoing calls", select the number to be used by FRITZ!App Fon for making calls.
  6. Under "Incoming Calls", specify which telephone numbers FRITZ!App Fon should react to when you receive calls.

7 Maintaining a permanent internet connection

Calls to your internet telephone number can only reach the FRITZ!Box if an internet connection is active. Some FRITZ!Box models must be configured to permanently maintain the internet connection:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click "Change connection settings".
  4. Enable the option "Maintain permanently (recommended for flat rates)". If the option is not shown, the FRITZ!Box is already permanently connected to the internet.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

8 Having your numbers checked

If the telephone still does not ring when you receive calls to an internet telephone number although the internet connection and internet telephone number were configured correctly, your internet telephony provider is experiencing a problem:

Important:After porting telephone numbers (for example after switching to an IP-based connection), telephone numbers can often be used immediately for outgoing calls. However, you cannot receive calls to these numbers for one or two days because the telephone numbers are not completely ported until then.

  1. Contact your internet telephony provider and have your number checked.
