Cannot access user interface via HTTPS from the home network

You cannot call up the FRITZ!Box user interface from the home network via HTTPS. The user interface does not open when you enter https://fritz.box in a web browser.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Determining the TCP port for HTTPS

For security reasons, the FRITZ!Box sets up a random TCP port for HTTPS when internet access via HTTPS is enabled, for example with MyFRITZ!, that you then have to include when opening the user interface:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Permit Access" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!Box Services" tab.
  4. Make note of the port entered in the field "TCP Port for HTTPS".

2 Opening the user interface

  1. Call up the address https://fritz.box:[FRITZ!Box's HTTPS port] in a web browser.

    Example:
    https://fritz.box:4947

3 Confirming the security warning

Since the SSL certificate of the FRITZ!Box cannot be validated when it is accessed from the home network, you must confirm the web browser's security warning. This does not pose a security risk:

  • Google Chrome

    1. In Chrome, click "Advanced" under the certificate warning.
    2. Click "Proceed to [...] (unsafe)".
  • Microsoft Edge

    1. In Edge, click "Advanced" or "Details" under the certificate warning.
    2. Click "Proceed to [...] (unsafe)" or "Continue to this webpage (not recommended)".
  • Mozilla Firefox

    1. In Firefox, click "Advanced" and then "Accept the Risk and Continue" under the certificate warning.
  • Apple Safari

    1. In Safari, click "Show Certificate" under the certificate warning.
    2. Enable the option "Always trust [...] when connecting to [...]" and click "Continue".
    3. Enter the password of your macOS user account and click "Update settings".
