Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Ziggo line

The FRITZ!Box is already configured for use with a cable connection from Ziggo in the factory settings. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the cable modem from Ziggo and configure telephony. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Connecting a cable modem

  1. Either connect the cable modem to the first multimedia socket or to the socket that the cable technician used for the original installation. Only use the coaxial cable (without an extension) provided by the cable technician to connect it.

2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click "Log In".
  3. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
  4. Select "Cable modem or internet router" from the drop-down list "Internet connection via".
  5. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
  6. Use a network cable to connect the cable modem to the "WAN" port on the FRITZ!Box and click "Apply" to save the settings.
  7. Now the FRITZ!Box establishes its internet connection over the cable modem. Configuration is complete when the message "The procedure was concluded successfully" is displayed.

3 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your login information ready

  1. Have the login information for telephony that are displayed in the Mijn Ziggo app or that you received from Ziggo's customer service ready (for example the username and password).

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Other provider" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your telephone number including the area code (for example 31201234567) by "Telephone number for registration".
  6. Enter your telephone number (for example 1234567) by "Internal telephone number in the FRITZ!Box".
  7. Enter the login information you received from Ziggo by "Username" and "Password".

    Important:Leave the field "Authentication name" blank since otherwise login problems may occur.

  8. Enter vmk.voice.ziggo.nl in the field "Registrar".
  9. Enter your area code by "Area code".
  10. Click "Additional Settings" to display all of the settings.
  11. Enable the option "Use telephone number for registration".
  12. Select the setting "IPv4 and IPv6, IPv6 preferred" by "Contact Internet telephony provider via".
  13. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Adjusting the number format

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective internet telephone number.
  4. Click "Telephone Number Format".
  5. Select the option "None" for the country code and area code in the "Telephone Number Format" section.
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
