Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with an o2 line

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with o2. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic connection and enter your personal account information in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and smart home is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • FRITZ!Box with SFP module "FRITZ!SFP GPON"

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Asking for account information

  1. Call o2's customer service and ask for the ONT installation ID for the fiber optic modem (also called "ONT password").

    Note:If you have a router with integrated fiber optic modem from o2, you can find its ONT installation ID in its user interface under http://192.168.1.1 under "Mantenimiento > GPON Password".

2 Inserting the SFP module into the FRITZ!Box

The FRITZ!Box is available in several different product variants, each of which is delivered with different components. If there was no SFP module inserted in your FRITZ!Box, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP GPON" into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.

3 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to your fiber optic connection

  1. Remove the dust protection caps from the fiber optic cable, the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box, and from the fiber optic socket.
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box and to the fiber optic socket. Do not bend the fiber optic cable and do not hold the ends of the cable in front of your eyes.

4 Plugging the FRITZ!Box in

  1. Plug the power adapter into the FRITZ!Box's power socket and plug it into a power outlet.

5 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click "Log In".
  3. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
  4. Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list "Internet service provider".
  5. Enable the option "Fiber optics".
  6. Enable the option "Yes" in the section "Account Information".
  7. Enter adslppp@telefonicanetpa as the "Username".
  8. Enter adslppp for the "Password".
  9. Enable the option "ONT Installation ID needed" and enter it in the corresponding field.
  10. Click "Change connection settings".
  11. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
  12. Enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access".
  13. Enter 6 in the field "VLAN ID" and 1 in the field "PBit".
  14. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  15. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is complete as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.

    Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact o2.

6 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Entering the VLAN ID for internet telephony

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Line Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Changing the Settings" in the "Telephony connection" section.
  5. Click "Connection Settings for DSL/WAN".
  6. Enable the option "VLAN required for internet telephony".
  7. Enter 3 in the field "VLAN ID".
  8. Enter 4 in the field "PBit".
  9. Enable the option "Use a separate connection (PVC) for Internet telephony".
  10. By "Is account information required?", enable the option "No".
  11. Enable the option "Obtain the IP address automatically (DHCP)".
  12. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Other provider" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your telephone number without the country code +34 (for example 911234567) by "Telephone number for registration" and "Internal telephone number in the FRITZ!Box".
  6. Enter your telephone number without the country code +34 (for example 911234567) by "Username", "Authentication name", and "Password".
  7. Enter telefonica.net in the field "Registrar".
  8. Enter 10.31.255.134:5070 in the "Proxy server" field.
  9. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
