FRITZ!Box reports "The search for a new FRITZ!OS version failed"

It is not possible to determine whether a new FRITZ!OS is available. After you click the "Find New FRITZ!OS" button, the message "The search for a new FRITZ!OS version failed" is displayed in the user interface.

Cause

  • Temporary problem with the internet connection or AVM Update Server.

Repeat the search later or perform the update manually as described here.

1 Downloading the FRITZ!OS file

  1. Call up download.avm.de/fritzbox/ in your web browser.
  2. Switch to the folder for your FRITZ!Box model, then to the subfolder "deutschland" or "other", and then to the folder "fritz.os".

    Note:The complete model name of your FRITZ!Box is shown in the FRITZ!Box user interface on the "Overview" page and is also printed on the sticker on the bottom of the device.

  3. Download the file with the extension ".image" to the computer.

2 Installing the latest FRITZ!OS

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Update" in the "System" menu.

    Important:If the "Update" menu is not available, your FRITZ!Box was supplied by your cable provider. The cable provider automatically installs new FRITZ!OS for these devices. It is therefore not possible or necessary to install an update using the FRITZ!Box user interface. Refer to your provider for information on the new FRITZ!OS version and possible dates.

  3. Click on the "FRITZ!OS file" tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  4. Click "Save Settings" and on the FRITZ!Box, confirm that the procedure may be executed if asked to do so.

    Note:Save your FRITZ!Box settings again under "System > Backup" right after successfully completing the installation. Then you can always restore a working configuration.

  5. Click the "Browse..." or "Choose File" button.
  6. Select the FRITZ!OS file you downloaded (image file).
  7. Click the "Start Update" button.
