Calls to an analog landline number are signaled with a delay

Calls to your analog landline number are signaled with a delay. Callers hear the ringing tone several times before your telephone rings or the Fixed Line LED on the FRITZ!Box lights up to signal the call.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

1 Determining how long the delay is

  1. Check how long it takes for the Fixed Line LED to light up on the FRITZ!Box after the caller hears the first ringing tone.
  2. If no more than four seconds pass, the delay is normal due to technical reasons and not caused by an error.

2 Disabling SMS and MMS support in the telephone

The telephone reacts quicker to calls if you disable SMS and MMS support:

  1. Disable SMS and MMS support in the telephone connected to the FRITZ!Box. Refer to the manufacturer of the device for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

3 Having your provider activate CLIP

The FRITZ!Box signals incoming calls with less of a delay if the provider activates CLIP for your line. The following step is only necessary if you do not see the caller ID on the display of your telephone when you receive a call:

  1. Have your telephony provider activate the service "Calling line identification presentation (CLIP)" for your landline.

    ATTENTION!You may be charged for activating it. Ask your telephony provider about charges in advance!

4 Connecting all telephones and telephony devices to the FRITZ!Box

  1. Remove all telephony devices, cables, and additional telephone jacks from the first (main) telephone jack in your home.

    Important:Disruptions on the DSL and telephone connection can occur if cables or devices other than the DSL splitter are connected to the first telephone jack.

  2. Connect only the DSL splitter to the first telephone jack that you received from your DSL provider: Insert the cable in the "Amt" socket on the DSL splitter and the other end in the "F" socket on the telephone jack (see figure).

  3. Connect all analog terminal devices to the FRITZ!Box.

5 Excluding another device as source of interference

Either a device connected to the FRITZ!Box or the power mains may be transmitting interference to the FRITZ!Box. Perform the following test to see if this is the case:

  1. Remove all devices and cables from the LAN ports and the USB port on the FRITZ!Box. If no devices were connected, connect a computer to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.
  2. If the error no longer occurs, then a device connected to the FRITZ!Box was transmitting interference to the FRITZ!Box or the computer now channels it off. Usually, you can eliminate the cause of the interference through one of these measures:
    1. Use a power strip to connect the FRITZ!Box and all of the connected devices to the same electric outlet.
    2. Test different electric outlets and power strips.
    3. Use UTP network cables to connect devices to the LAN ports on the FRITZ!Box. UTP network cables do not have a ground wire and do not transmit interference to the FRITZ!Box, unlike STP network cables such as the one included with delivery.

      Important:If the problem occurs with a FRITZ!Powerline adapter, use the UTP network cable included with the FRITZ!Powerline adapter.

    4. If a device connected to the USB port is transmitting interference to the FRITZ!Box, connect the device to a USB port on your computer instead of to the FRITZ!Box.

6 Swapping the wires of the first telephone jack

The error can occur on an analog landline if the wires that feed into the telephone jack from your provider are reversed/swapped:

  1. Swap both of the wires that feed into the first telephone jack (main telephone jack) from your provider in your home. When you unscrew the cover of the telephone jack, the two wires you should swap are normally found on the left of the screw terminal at the top, depending on the type of jack. The contacts are labeled 1 and 2 or 1a and 1b.

If there is still a delay before incoming calls are signaled, the issue is not caused by the FRITZ!Box. Instead, it is caused by a different component (such as a telephone, cable, power supply).
