Unknown device logged into MyFRITZ! account

Did you receive an email with the subject line "New login to your MyFRITZ! account" and the following text?

"New Login Detected. We noticed that a recent login to your MyFRITZ! account with the email address [...] took place on a new device.
Information on Device Login [...]"

You received this email because a new device logged into your MyFRITZ! account. This guide contains detailed information on these emails.

1 Message may indicate security problem

MyFRITZ!Net logs both successful logins and failed login attempts to your MyFRITZ! account, and myfritz.net displays the last login attempts and the devices used for these attempts.

To keep you informed about the security of your MyFRITZ! account, MyFRITZ!Net notifies you by email about logins to your MyFRITZ!Net account from

  1. a new computer, smartphone or tablet.
  2. a new web browser (for example Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge).
  3. a web browser in "incognito mode" (private surfing).
  4. your web browser after the browser cookie is deleted (for example after deleting the browsing data).

Either you, a member of your family, or a roommate may have logged in. It is also possible that the login was from a smartphone or tablet on which MyFRITZ!App for iOS or MyFRITZ!App for Android was installed a long time ago.

If the time and IP address of the login do not match either you or another authorized user, this indicates that an unauthorized person logged in, for example with stolen account information. As long as that person did not also log in to your FRITZ!Box, it is sufficient to change the password of your MyFRITZ! account to prevent further unwanted logins.

Note:You can use IP WHOIS Lookup, for example, to find information on the IP address used to log in to your MyFRITZ! account.

Changing the MyFRITZ! password

Set a new password for your MyFRITZ! account. Do not use a password that you already use for other services, such as for your FRITZ!Box, email account, Amazon, Facebook, or Google.

  1. Enter myfritz.net in a web browser.
  2. In the corresponding fields, enter the email address and MyFRITZ! password you used to register with MyFRITZ!Net, and click "Log In".
  3. Solve the CAPTCHA.
  4. Click the three-dot menu in the upper-right corner of the web page and then click "Account Settings".
  5. Click "Change Password".
  6. In the "Current password" field, enter the password you are currently using and enter the new password in the "New password" and "Confirm new password" fields.
  7. Click "Save" to save the new password.

2 Tips for additional security

To make it more difficult for unauthorized persons to access your FRITZ!Box via the internet and to minimize the potential for attack, observe the following security tips and adjust the settings of your FRITZ!Box, if necessary:

Installing the latest FRITZ!OS

  1. Install the latest FRITZ!OS on the FRITZ!Box.

Disabling services that are no longer needed

  1. Click "Diagnostics" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Diagnostics" menu.
  3. In the "FRITZ!Box Services" section, check which services are set up for access from the internet in the FRITZ!Box.
  4. Disable the services that you no longer need.

    Note:MyFRITZ!Net requires the service "Internet access to the FRITZ!Box (HTTPS)".

Using individual account information

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Give all users unique usernames. Do not use usernames that are easy to guess, such as admin, guest, fritzbox, remote, or user.
  4. Give all users unique passwords that are strong enough. Do not use any passwords that are easy to guess or ones that you already use for other services, such as an email account, Amazon, Facebook, or Google.

Using an alternative HTTPS port

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Permit Access" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!Box Services" tab.
  4. In the field "TCP port for HTTPS", enter an unused port from the range 1024 to 65535 instead of the default port 443. This makes it more difficult for unauthorized persons to determine whether it is even possible to access the FRITZ!Box via HTTPS.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Using an alternative FTP/FTPS port

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Permit Access" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!Box Services" tab.
  4. If internet access to your storage media via FTP/FTPS is enabled, enter an unused port from the range 1024 to 65535 in the field "TCP Port for FTP/FTPS" instead of the default port 21. This makes it more difficult for unauthorized persons to determine whether it is even possible to access the FRITZ!Box via FTP/FTPS.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
