Occasional restarts: Several LEDs on the FRITZ!Box flash
The FRITZ!Box restarts occasionally. When this happens, all or several LEDs flash continuously. It restarts a few times a week, several times a day, or when specific events or actions occur, for example, but not constantly.
Important:If the FRITZ!Box restarts constantly, proceed as described in in this guide.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.
1 Installing a LabPlus version
In LabPlus, we make updates available that contain new functions and improvements before these become part of the regular FRITZ!OS. Install the LabPlus version because it increases the FRITZ!Box's stability and solves the problem of occasional restarts after updating to FRITZ!OS 8:
Note:You can use the LabPlus version until a new FRITZ!OS update is available.
- Call up https://service.avm.de/downloads/LaborPlus/ in a web browser and switch to the folder for your FRITZ!Box model.
- Download the LabPlus version for your FRITZ!Box model to the computer.
- Unzip the ZIP file to your computer, for example to the Desktop.
- Perform a manual FRITZ!OS update to the LabPlus version (image file).
Note: The button "Back to the Official FRITZ!OS" under "System > Update" allows you to reinstall the regular FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box at any time.
2 Using the correct power adapter
Using an unsuitable power adapter for the FRITZ!Box is one of the most common causes of error:
- Use a suitable power adapter to plug in your FRITZ!Box.
3 Testing whether a USB device is interfering
The problem may be caused by a USB device connected to the FRITZ!Box:
- Remove all USB devices from the FRITZ!Box. If the problem no longer occurs then, either a USB device or its cable is faulty, or a device consumes too much power.
- Reconnect the USB devices to the FRITZ!Box one by one to find out which device causes the problem.
- For testing purposes, use a USB hub with its own power adapter (active USB hub) to connect the device causing interference to the FRITZ!Box.
- If the problem also occurs when using it with an active hub, replace the USB device.
4 Configuring file sharing software
The following steps are only necessary if you are using file sharing software (such as eMule, BitTorrent):
- In the file sharing software, decrease the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed.
5 Checking the FRITZ!Box and settings
Loading the factory settings
- Load the FRITZ!Box's factory settings.
Checking the settings
- Reconfigure the basic functions of the FRITZ!Box.
- Check whether the problem still occurs.
- If the problem no longer occurs, completely reconfigure the FRITZ!Box. The FRITZ!Box's settings were incorrect.
- If the problem still occurs, use the recovery program to reset the FRITZ!Box. The FRITZ!Box is in an error state.
6 Enabling the automatic sending of error reports
If you configure your FRITZ!Box to send error reports automatically, we can use the data we receive to eliminate the occurrence of sudden restarts in a future FRITZ!OS update, if the cause is reproducible and one we can eliminate. The error reports do not contain any personal information such as passwords or account information:
- Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
- Click on the "AVM Services" tab.
- Enable the option "Diagnostics data".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
