Assigning unique names to FRITZ!Powerline adapters

You can assign unique names to your FRITZ!Powerline devices, for example "livingroom". This way you can keep track of your FRITZ!Powerline devices and access individual ones even if you are using several FRITZ!Powerline devices.

If you are using your FRITZ!Powerline devices with a FRITZ!Box, you can also change the name with the FRITZ!Box's user interface. If you are using a router from another manufacturer, use the FRITZ!Powerline software to change the name.

1 Changing the name with the FRITZ!Box user interface

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Mesh" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the device you want to rename or click "Details".
  4. Enter a unique name of your choice in the "Name" field. The name may not consist of only numbers.
  5. Click "Apply" or "OK" to save the settings.

2 Changing the name with the FRITZ!Powerline software

Downloading and installing the FRITZ!Powerline software

  1. Call up https://download.avm.de/fritzpowerline/tools/fritzpowerline/ in your web browser.
  2. Switch to the folder "de" or "en".
  3. Download the FRITZ!Powerline software for the operating system of your computer.
  4. Install the FRITZ!Powerline software on a computer that is connected to a FRITZ!Powerline device via the FRITZ!Box or directly via a network cable.

Change the name

  1. Start the FRITZ!Powerline software.
  2. In the FRITZ!Powerline software, double-click the symbol of the FRITZ!Powerline devices whose name you want to change.
  3. Enter a unique name of your choice in the "Name" field.
  4. Click "OK" to save the settings.
