Cannot update FRITZ!OS

Updating FRITZ!OS 7.20 or earlier to the latest FRITZ!OS fails. After the update is installed, the previous version is still displayed.

1 Downloading the FRITZ!OS file

  1. Call up download.avm.de/fritzwlan/ in your web browser.
  2. Switch to the folder for your repeater model, then to the subfolder "deutschland" or "other", and then to the folder "fritz.os".
  3. Download the file with the extension ".image" to the computer.

2 Restarting the repeater

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Reset" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click the "Restart" button.

3 Updating manually

Perform the update immediately after the restart:

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!OS file" tab.
  4. Click the "Browse..." or "Choose File" button.
  5. Select the update file you downloaded (image file).
  6. Click the "Start Update" button.

If the update also fails immediately after the restart, repeat the procedure. In some cases, several attempts are required until the update is successful.

4 Enabling auto update level III

If the manual update fails several times, enable the auto update function. Then the FRITZ!Box keeps attempting to install the update at night until it is successful:

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click on "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Auto Update" tab.
  4. Enable the option "Level III: Notify me about new versions of FRITZ!OS and install new versions automatically (recommended)". If the option is grayed out, enable the option in the Mesh Master.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
