Changing the FRITZ!Box's IP address

In the factory settings, the FRITZ!Box has the IP address 192.168.178.1. You can change it in order to

  • integrate the FRITZ!Box into an existing network that uses an IP network other than 192.168.178.0.
  • have IP addresses from a specific IP network assigned to the computers, smartphones, and other devices in the home network via DHCP.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The IP network 192.168.100.0 may not be used. In compliance with the DOCSIS specifications, this network is reserved for the cable provider and is used for diagnostic and maintenance purposes.
  • The settings in this guide are not available if the FRITZ!Box is used as a Mesh Repeater or in IP client mode. In this case, proceed as described in the guide Setting up the FRITZ!Box as an IP client.

Note:This guide is valid for FRITZ!OS 7.50 or later. If you are using an older FRITZ!OS version, the configuration may differ or functions may not be available. You can find the FRITZ!OS version on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface.

Changing the FRITZ!Box's IP address

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Network" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "Network Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Additional Settings" in the section "LAN Settings" to display all of the settings.
  5. Click the "IPv4 Settings" button.
  6. Enter the desired IP address and subnet mask.

    Important:Do not enter an IP address from the network 192.168.100.x. In compliance with DOCSIS, this network is reserved for the cable provider and may not be used in the FRITZ!Box.

  7. Click "Apply" to save the settings and on the FRITZ!Box, confirm that the procedure may be executed, if you are asked to do so.
